1) Motion capture is the way by recording the movement and then transfer the data to a digital model such as 3D character or a real robot.
2)Because we want the movement for animation looks more realistic. Motion capture can save the time for animating the character frame by frame.
When the movement is complex and realistic physical interactions such as secondary motions, it's better to use mocap which is more accurate.
3)Eadweard Muybridge was an English photographer. He is known primarily for his important pioneering work on animal locomotion, with use of multiple cameras to capture motion. He was the first person who use camera took pics in and then put all the photo together to get the whole motion (running horse).
