Expression to Convey, Concept
The expression to convey was in the previous part of the report. The tone of the voices does a lot of part to give the animation to have more emotions. The first part that the boy is surprised that he is enrolled into the team and that is giving the strong and loud tone of voice with the happy emotion into it. Then the adult answered in loud tone of voice that showing the congratulation for the boy. The boy shouted out with happiness. The man started to change his tone of voice down and quickly told the boy “ go put some shoes on”, this can shows the man’s emotion is getting annoyed by the over exaggerate impression from the boy. The boy still has loud and strong tone of voice until he shouted out or screamed out with fear at the end.
The concept of the scene and environment is from inside school building. The boy is one of the baseball club member that just been assigned into the team by the man, which is the coach. The boy is surprised and happy at the same time. He become more reckless that step on the baseball bat, slipped and fall down on the ground.
Body Language, what are open, closed actions
The body language for this scene is mostly open actions since the scene is focusing on the boy character. The boy first started shaking with nervous while his whole body is shaking, then jumped up with both arm raised up with joy. After that, he starts to jump around with exciting and then fall down with fear and shock. All of these are open actions and the coach, even he is in perspective view, he still shows the impression with his head shaking as a close action.
Principles of the animation
The first principle of the animation that shoe in the scene is the staging. The main character is the main focus and the camera angle always fellow him. The second is the secondary action, this principle does show a lot in the scene such as when the boy fall down on his back, he head is bouncing through the force of impact. The third is the straight-ahead action and pose-to-pose. The scene is mostly use the pose-to-pose since it is easier to animated, from one pose or action and goes to another action that can be see obviously in the scene. The exaggeration also applies to this animation, but only through the body expression.
Prop used
There is no prop using during the record or animation. The animation need some prop use as baseball bat, however the fall down action might course injury to the actor as well as might damage the other object such as the cloth or the cameras.
MOCAP process
There are two or three times used the MOCAP room for recorded the animation. The first time is to record the tutorial action, however not relate to the project. But in the time, the first user calibration is been set.
The second time, the record started and finished within short time. The total takes of that time is around 3-4 takes as we thought our action is good enough, also due to the time of other user that need to go class and work. Mostly in the MOCAP room of this time, I mostly did the directing part for other actors, which take more action than I did.
The third time is the final record, since the previous record still have some problem that cannot be clean easily, this time took about 7 takes to get the nearly perfect action. The only problem is when falls down part that leg shaking, but not much critical that cannot be cleaned.
Cleaning process
After the record the final action, the less work in this process. The main part the need to be clean is the leg when falls down which it move a little to the left side for both leg, the hand flip back when jumping and last is adjust the position a little higher as the character fall into the ground.
Problem while capturing
There are many problems that occurred during the capture the action. The main problem thing is the user calibration, since there are three people use capture at the same time with same character. The character was bend into weird appearance even click the “Reset tracking” buttons still does not work. Or even load the individual user calibration also still not work so well.
The way to fix this is reload or import the mesh character again in each time that different person is capturing as well as reset the new user calibration for each person, since the previous user calibration, some person does not wear the same style of clothes.
In overall, I found my weakness on cleaning part, so I realised that I need the capture many action as possible to get closer the to perfect move. There are also weakness in capturing as well that actor might get more fatigue to perform each action, especially for hard movement action one. With this, I only took 7 times to capture the move to be easier to clean.
The storyboard and motion list are already been posted as well as picture of environment scene.
