Motion capture is about process of recording physical movement and tranfer the data to 3D character models. It uses for capturing the motion of any physical movement and make the animation goes easier than making frame by frame. In my opinion, motion capture is not often used in live performance but nowadays you might some of live concerts used motion capture to represent the band. For example, crate 3D musician characters and use motion capture to create animation for them and also have to use a high technology camera to display it.

Zoetrope is purpose for capturing static pictures by rapid spinning a wheel to make a motion movement.

Rotoscoping is an animation technique by capturing the picture frame by frame. For example, you may draw a picture in different actions and animate it by put it on top of itself (layers).

Organic Motion:

Organic motion is a makeless motion capture system, just step in front of cameras, all those cameras will capturing the movement without wearing suit.
