2534_week8 report
The motion capture that we used for our animation object is prosthetic/hybrid motion capture. Of course by using prosthetic motion capture, we do not need to worry about the motion capture is affected by mental objects, and there is low lag for catching the motions. However prosthetic motion capture is using exoskeletons for helping get data, these exoskeletons are undesirable. We always need to spend time for setting the character’s position first and then we can catch the motion. This problem is also affecting the data cleaning. The electric cable is a kind of limitation for actors to do actions like fighting by using kick. On the other hand, the whole suit of prosthetic motion capture is really heavy which means actor can only act the normal activities such as walking turn around instead of performing acrobatic moves. Even for jumping which we need in our animation is a king of difficult job for actors to achieve and of course the actor can easily get tired during the motion capture.
In our project, we need to do some moves by hand such as hand hold the chin, head shaking, open eyes, head rising, hitting and some facial expression. The reason why we choose hand make instead of making by motion capture is we can not do that by using prosthetic motion capture because parts wear down quickly is another problem during the project. It is too sensitive to control well. Especially for the facial expression, we are not going to use Face Tracker part of the suit and this means that we need to use morpher in 3Ds Max.
For the organic motion capture suit, it can do better for our project in some problems that I mentioned before. Because everything you hated about prosthetic motion capture is gone in the blink of an eye. Our object for motion capture is easier than before.
Firstly is no more calibrating. We do not need to spend more time on checking that are the all pots working properly well. All the data is no longer collected by pots, actually pots are replaced by fourteen 2D cameras
Secondary is no more body suits. Heavy suit is always a big problem for girls. If we can use organic motion capture, everyone in our group can take the actor roll for animation, of course we can use motion capture to do some work which we should do by hand when we use prosthetic motion capture, such like jump, kick.
Finally is no more sending data out to be cleaned. That is a really amazing part. Beside the data collection, data clean is also a process which takes long time in project. Organic motion capture can make usable animation data immediately and we can reduce the data clean time. Precise data can make animation done effetely and quality.
Thinking about organic motion capture can not do facial motion and it can not track fingers but only tracks the whole hand as one, our project is not high require to finger working and we can still use morpher for facial motion; organic motion capture is much more effective than prosthetic motion capture. So if we can use organic motion capture instead of the suit we are using now, I really expect the organic motion capture system can help us avoiding calibrating, heavy suit and long time data cleaning.
