1. Explain in your own words, Why do we use motion capture instead of doing hand/normal keyframe animations?

Motion capture is the fast and convenient advanced system in the world when people doing films or games. It is more perfect than the hand/normal keyframe animations doing of motion to describe objects, especially in 3D animations.

2. Explain in your own words,in 10 - 15 steps, how to put the suit on, adjust, configure, test, direct, record, convert, export and import motion capture suit & data.

(1)Need 3 or 4 people to help the actor to put the suit on.

(2)When put on the suit, we need some one to hold on the gyro box, than use wires connected to the cables.

(3)According to the different actors to adjust the suit size.

(4)Turn on the system in computer, than turn the X-ist box receiver on.

(5)Using 6D mouse to put the avatar model on a suitable position on the screen, make sure all system has a good cooperation and the actor ready to move and record the motion.

(6)Before record, we should make a file to save them, press enter and click initialize, make a new file and rename, than click open to record.

(7)When the actor move, they’re some people should help the actor move and how to move.

(8)After record the motion, convert them into csm file in 3Ds max and then the file should be saved as src file.

(9)Importing those animations in 3Ds max, than load in them on bip format on biped models.

Good: Easier to capture the motion of objects and the movement data will be reflected quickly on computer in 3D space. It can better enhance the cooperation between people.

Bad: Capture equipment is too heavy for the actor and wires also limits the range and activities of the actors.

I think the new system will be more convenient when we use it and it can capture more detail actions of the objects perfectly. I am so exciting to see the new system~
