1.What is Motion Capture in your own words.
Motion capture is a kind of system that we can describe the process of recording movement and put them into different ways such as games, movies, and advancements.
2.Why do we use it? When do we use it over hand animating (cell animation)?
Motion capture offers several advantages over traditional computer animation of a 3D model:
- More rapid, even real time results can be obtained, reduce the costs of key frame-based animation.
- The amount of work does not vary with the complexity or length of the performance to the same degree as when using traditional techniques. This allows many tests to be done with different styles or deliveries.
- Complex movement and realistic physical interactions such as secondary motions, weight and exchange of forces can be easily recreated in a physically accurate manner.
- The amount of animation data that can be produced within a given time is extremely large when compared to traditional animation techniques. This contributes to both cost effectiveness and meeting production deadlines.
- Potential for free software and third party solutions reducing its costs
3.Who is Eadweard Muybridge, what does he have to do with motion capture?
Eadweard J. Muybridge was an English photographer. He is known primarily for his important pioneering work on animal locomotion, with use of multiple cameras to capture motion, and his zoopraxiscope, a device for projecting motion pictures that pre-dated the flexible perforated film strip that is used today. He used photography to study human and animal locomotion.
4.Who is Etienne-Jules Marey what is the connection with Zoetrope &Rotoscoping?
Etienne-Jules Marey is one of the people who are the earliest known form of motion capture. Marey’s technique includes using a special camera which he invented which allowed several exposures to be captured on a glass plate and on strips of film that could be passed through his camera automatically (similar to a video camera). The connection with Zoetrope & Rotoscoping is that motion is capyured painstakingly by hand, camera and pictures
5.What is another name for Zoetrope?
zoogyroscope
6.Choose one topic by commenting so others cannot do the same topic and research on the motion capture systems & processes
Happy Feet used Prosthetic motion capture for making animation. It used many cameras and filmed in many different directions. Dancers wearing black suits with small light, when they were dancing, the data of their motion can be analysed and translated to the penguins.
